Height Range: 14.3-15.1hh
Once commonplace, the Abtenauer is very rare today and is in danger of becoming extinct as a breed. Though small in stature, his agility and sure-footedness make him perfect for forestry work high in the Austrian Alps. Its exact origins are unknown, and it has long been bred in isolation in the Abtenau valley after which it was named. While leopard-patterned horses do occur rarely in this breed, they are discouraged. Solid colors are preferred and roans are common. The breed stands around 14.3-15.1hh with occasional individuals over and under. On Horse Isle, the Abtenauer is found on the lava isles.
